In Support of “Steel Crow Saga” by Paul Krueger: Recommended Readings

I don’t always use this space to hype out over other author’s works. That’s usually what I use Goodreads for. But every once in a while, there comes along a book that is just so captivating, that to limit my thoughts about it to just a Goodreads review genuinely just wouldn’t be enough.

At the beginning of the month, I mentioned Paul Krueger’s latest novel, Steel Crow Saga, when I talked about the support that goes around for Filipino American authors and which ones usually get it. This was before I actually read the book myself. Since then, I took my time with reading it and I am so impressed with it, that I want to recommend the following readings in support of it, and in this particular order:

First, I want to recommend you read my review of it. It has no spoilers, but it gets down to the core of why I love it so much.

Then, I want you to read this caption for this post I did about it on Instagram. It’s not a review, but rather a call out to the Filipino American community to check out and support this book, especially as we now near the end of Filipino American History Month.

Next, of course, is the novel itself. Please don’t be intimidated by the page length. If anything, it’s an encouragement to strap in for one hell of an adventure! (It’s also available as an audiobook if you consume books that way as well.)

Finally, after you’ve left your ratings and reviews on Goodreads and/or Amazon (which is always a huge help for authors, especially newer ones), please go give this Reddit Q&A a read that Krueger did for the book’s launch. There, you will read about his desire to become a writer, his writing process, which animal he would pact with, and other random pieces of information about him like his favorite Filipino dish, favorite films, and his favorite series he read growing up.

(SIDE NOTE: When looking for posts, articles, and what not to recommend in relation to Steel Crow Saga, I couldn’t find a whole lot beyond this and reviews. It appears that there haven’t been a lot of interviews done with him about this book yet. So Paul, if you’re reading this, again, I extend out my invitation to have a writer-to-writer conversation one day.)

That just about does it. It’s not often that I’ll love a book this hard, which makes Steel Crow Saga a rare exception. It definitely deserves a lot more eyes on it, and I’m willing to do whatever I can on my end to help make that happen.

If you are able to, I hope you can go support me in all that I do by leaving a tip over on Ko-fi. I do a lot of writing that I get paid very little for or not at all, and so this is a way of showing your support other than just reading my content. Donations of varying quantities and frequencies are greatly appreciated.
