What Did I Miss? (March 11th-17th)

Published Works

In the Haziness of Identities: My Experience with the Hapa Project – For Multiracial Media, I discussed my participation in Kip Fulbeck’s upcoming hapa.me exhibit at the Japanese American National Museum, along with what that has meant to me on a personal level.

A Retrospect of KANGA RODDY: Introduction – For YOMYOMF, I kick off my retrospect series of pieces exploring this short lived PBS show, in honor of its upcoming 20th anniversary.

Happy 1st Anniversary to “An Absolute Mind”!

If I feel that the calendar year of 2017 is moving at the speed of light, then you can only imagine how stunned I am that three days ago marked one year since I released my second novel, An Absolute Mind. It was conceived four years prior, and spent two and a half years in the making before being released out to the world, at the beginning of a turning point in history for the United States. Just to jog your memory as to what this novel is about, here is the synopsis: Continue reading “Happy 1st Anniversary to “An Absolute Mind”!”

Special Wednesday Post: A Year of “An Absolute Mind”

It’s hard to believe it’s already been a year since the release of my second novel, An Absolute Mind. It’s been on quite a journey since then, especially during this time of history we are in for the United States.

I will give a more in-depth reflection on it this Saturday. In the mean time, if you haven’t already, please go buy the book and if you’ve read it already, please leave a review somewhere. Also, as a reminder, tonight I’m doing a live reading of the first few chapters from the book on Instagram Live, so you have an account on there, then please tune in at 8:30PM PST.

I look forward to seeing some of you then.

Happy 3rd Anniversary to “A Moment’s Worth”!

Today marks three years since I released my debut novel, A Moment’s Worth! I definitely feel the length of time that has passed between that faithful day in 2014 and the present day. At the same time, I’m stunned that that amount of time has passed at all.

For those who are unfamiliar with A Moment’s Worth, it follows three core concepts: the interconnections among the human race, the fine line between what is real and what could be a dream, and the value of moments in time. It remains to be my most experimental work to date, which makes for – in my opinion – an interesting novel to be my first. Continue reading “Happy 3rd Anniversary to “A Moment’s Worth”!”

Loving Day and Busy Days (and a Surprise)

I’m not proud of the circumstance surrounding the development of this particular blog post, for I feel in this case scenario that I’m just putting something out there for the sake of putting something out there. However, I’m writing this to not only keep to my streak, but that there actually is something that I want to briefly touch upon.

First, let me clear the air when I say that even though it’s Saturday, I’m writing this a few days in advance. The past few days have been unbearably busy with reading “Raisin in the Sun,” work on a script, preparing material for my weekend tutoring job, work on a secret project, and waiting in between time for posthumous tunes to drop. Oh, and I have my first little sale going on for An Absolute Mind, in honor of Loving Day. Continue reading “Loving Day and Busy Days (and a Surprise)”

Happy 3rd Anniversary to “The Shadows”!

I’m at that point now where it’s been three years since becoming a published author. For those who’ve been following this blog, then you’ll know that that happened not when I released A Moment’s Worth in July 2014, but about a month and a half before via a soft launch, when I made my short story, “The Shadows,” available to Kindle users.

This is the official synopsis for it:

Just like how light can contradict darkness, darkness can obscure the light.
That’s exactly how the shadows – the Sun Spirits – work as they go about day-to-day, observing humanity. However, after hearing too much about humanity’s act of ongoing violence and other wrongdoings during the daily meeting of the Council of the Sun Spirits, the Chieftain declares a ban on the appearance of the sun for all of eternity. It will take a lot of conviction from the council for him to see with eyes of reasoning.

Reflection: 6 Months of “An Absolute Mind” and My First Reading as an Author

This is not the world I had anticipated my second novel to be released in, but for several reasons, I am glad that it is in existence in this time that we are in now. I can’t believe it’s been just over six months since the publication of An Absolute Mind. The speed of time is something that I will never be able to digest properly, for it really feels like last week – if not yesterday – since I released this second work out into the world. Happy 2-Year Anniversary to “A Moment’s Worth”!

If yesterday’s announcement of a little promo sale didn’t make it clear enough, then let me say now that yesterday was quite a special day. Exactly two years ago yesterday was when I released my debut novel, A Moment’s Worth.

For those who don’t know what it’s about, it can be best summed up as a novel that’s more theme-driven than plot-driven. It’s about the interconnection amongst the human race, the fine line between what is real and what could be a dream, and about the value of moments in time.
