Labor Day Weekend Movie Challenge

I’ve been a touch mum since the conclusion of the Kickstarter campaign for Dasig. While work on the graphic novel continues on, life moves forward, and today, I’m bringing something a little different to the table.

At a glance, it’s been a minute since I’ve made several announcements at once – since the early days of the pandemic, to be precise. There’s a lot that’s going on and a lot to go over, and I’m just going to go right ahead and dive into it:

I’ve been mentioning for a while now that there’s a writing project that’s been taking up quite a bit of time as of late, and if you follow me on social media, then you know that I finally revealed just what that is within the last week. However, for those who don’t, here’s what’s up:

Now Playing: “Interview with an Aswang”

Last year, I made my debut with Rainy Day Artistic Collective with a one-act play I wrote called “Interview with an Aswang;” where a college student interviews her aswang friend about what her life is like for a school assignment, only to unknowingly hit on some hard realities the latter has dealt with. It was since made into a short film that was submitted into the film festival circuit, and while it did play at Mixed Asian Media Fest, it otherwise wasn’t as successful getting in elsewhere.

Coming Next Week: Halfway Historical Festival feat. “Not in Kansas”

I’m excited to reveal that after the past few months of working on this, we are now one week away from my third production with Rainy Day Artistic Collective. This time, I’ve written one of ten plays that will be featured in their Halfway Historical Festival; where all the stories revolve around real-life occurrences.

Back in February, I made my debut with Rainy Day Artistic Collective when my short play, “Interview with an Aswang,” was featured in their inaugural Winter One Act Festival. 2021 may almost be over, but before it does, I’m excited to reveal my involvement in their upcoming showcase. Next week, Rainy Day Artistic Collective proudly presents their Twisted Tales Digital One Act Festival; where all ten plays re-imagine ten classic tales.

So something I’ve been working on throughout the year is now a few short weeks away from happening, and in this announcement, there are multiple components to it. Allow me to walk you through them:

Short Film Announcement: “Interview with an Aswang”

After officially announcing it both in my guest appearance on the ShoPowSho podcast as well as on my Instagram, I’m proud to go public with the news here that my one-act play, “Interview with an Aswang,” has been made into a short film and is currently being submitted into the film festival circuit. For those who didn’t catch it when it was featured in Rainy Day Artistic Collective’s Winter Showcase three months ago, it tells the story of a college student who interviews her friend about what her life is like as an aswang for a school assignment. Of course, that’s just the very surface level synopsis of it.
