Revisiting “46” After Electing 46

Last week’s anniversary post made it pretty obvious that An Absolute Mind has been on my mind as of late following the election of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris into office. However, another story of mine that has been prominently thought about recently is my 2017 short story, “46.” Continue reading “Revisiting “46” After Electing 46″

Special Sunday Post: 4 Years of “An Absolute Mind”

Woah is me, it’s been that long already?! It’s such a shock that I simply had to write a post about it on the actual day of the anniversary. As of today, it has now been four years since the release of An Absolute Mind. My sci-fi novel of a young woman with an incredible cognitive ability making the decision to demand change for the betterment of the future has been around this long already, and even after all this time, it’s still keeping me occupied. Thoughts About Acknowledging and Supporting Filipino American History Month

One week remains of the month of October, which means one week remains of Filipino American History Month. This month recognizes and acknowledges historical events, people, and experiences that have helped shape what Filipino America is today. It has also become one of the busiest months of the year for me, aside from May.

Filipino American History Month both acknowledges the accomplishments of those who came before us and those who are making their mark in the present day. Book lists, film recommendations, concerts and more are suddenly popping up and scheduled all over, all involving Filipino American voices. Changing Tactics

Eight years ago, I made the decision to start taking my writing more seriously. After a summer spent working on a showcase featuring rising performing arts talents and seeing one of my favorite actors make his own writing dreams come true, I knew that no matter how much I had on my plate, I can make the time to make my own writing dreams become a reality. About the Journals Pt. III

It’s been over two years since I last addressed this topic, and yet it feels like there has been enough change in the times for me to talk about it once more.

The last time I wrote about my constantly growing collection of journals, it was through the lens of writing about the day-to-day during a crazy political climate. While that much is still very much true now, obviously the circumstances have altered quite a bit. Over 18 years after I started actively keeping a journal, I now find myself writing through a global pandemic. Continue reading “About the Journals Pt. III”

Thoughts About Fiction in the Time of COVID-19

A few months ago, I read the latest novel from the thoughtful sci-fi author Mike Chen, A Beginning at the End. I won’t go into too much detail about it, but if I were to describe it in a very brief synopsis, it follows three adults from different paths of life and how they all find themselves coming together, in the aftermath of – wait for it it – a global pandemic. 6 Years of Lola By the Bay and My 2019 Year in Review

Another year has come and gone by on a whim, and here I am once more, looking back on the past eleven months of writing on this blog, on other spaces of the Internet, and beyond. Although this will be a reflection on the year, I sense a weight to it that hasn’t been there the previous times I’ve done one of these, likely because this is the last retrospect for the decade. A Love Letter to the Hard-Working Millennial: Recommended Viewing

In the midst of Disney+ taking over everyone’s lives (and time), today I want to take some time to shed light on and recommend a short film that just came out this week, and not from the House of Mouse. It’s a touching film from a creative force I have hailed multiple times in my little corner of the Internet: Wong Fu Productions. For Recommended Analyzing, today I am recommending their latest short film, “A Difference Between.” Continue reading “A Love Letter to the Hard-Working Millennial: Recommended Viewing”
