Special Sunday Post: “From Within the Mind”

So I have a little surprise for everyone. If you’ve been following this blog for the past few years or have been exploring it as of recently, then you may know how three months after I released my debut novel, A Moment’s Worth, I did a month-long series of blog posts called “Behind the Moments,” where I described behind-the-scenes details about the making of it. Well, seeing that February will be three months since I released An Absolute Mind, I’m going to do the same thing. Continue reading “Special Sunday Post: “From Within the Mind””

Thoughts About Escapism

At this time two years ago, I was already writing what would eventually become An Absolute Mind. It was easy to slip in that mindset of its setting in an optimistic future, given the conditions of my country back then. While I can’t say that everything was peaceful, as far as privileges and rights go, they were as intact and secure as ever, and even got better when the Supreme Court finally made the historic decision to legalize same-sex marriage in all 50 states.

If I were to write An Absolute Mind today, I honestly am not sure how I would be able to effectively slip into that mindset and make that future as positive as it is, given everything that’s been happening in the week since Trump took office. There’s so much to go off of. Women’s rights are in danger. The press is being censored. “Alternative facts” have apparently become a thing. The proposed wall to border Mexico is actually being pursued… somehow. As of recently, immigrants and refugees from seven Muslim-dominant countries are banned from entering the country. It’s horrendous and difficult to read about. It’s history repeating itself, and then some. Continue reading “Thoughts About Escapism”

5 Things About “An Absolute Mind” I’m Most Proud Of

This whole month has been devoted to celebrating the release of my second novel, An Absolute Mind, and on this last Saturday of November, that fact is not about to change. While there are a few things about the novel that, looking back on it now, I wish I had done better, I definitely see fit to pat myself on the back on the different aspects of the story that made it what it is now. Therefore, inspired by a video released by Phil Wang yesterday, today I’m going to go over five things about An Absolute Mind I’m most proud of (and for those who haven’t read it, don’t worry, for this is a spoiler-free post). Let’s get started: Continue reading “5 Things About “An Absolute Mind” I’m Most Proud Of”

Aftermath

I’m catching my breath for a minute on this Saturday morning as I look back on this week… and what a week it’s been! I can’t believe it. I released my second novel! This makes for an exciting time that is to be celebrated and cherished to the fullest.

Unlike within the first few days following the release of A Moment’s Worth, the response to An Absolute Mind has definitely been more immediate. For one thing, as mentioned in my previous post, the very first review was released a week before the novel was published, and I’m so happy to see how the reviewer Catie made it evident on how much she liked it. Special Wednesday Post: The First Review and the Print Editions

Okay, so I wasn’t planning to write another post the day after An Absolute Mind came out, but due to a few new updates, I felt it necessary to share them as soon as possible.

With that said, I’d like to go over the first item. As it turns out, the first review for An Absolute Mind has been out since last week. FanGirlNation Magazine wrote a thoughtful (and positive) review, highlighting specific details they liked about the novel, all the while keeping all the plot twists and other maneuvers under wraps. Special Tuesday Post: Second Novel Title and Release Date REVEAL

It’s been in the works for over two years and is now almost ready to be released to the world. While I’ve said a few things here and there regarding what to expect from my second novel, I haven’t given a whole lot about it away. In many ways, it’s very different from A Moment’s Worth, but I hope that people who have read my first novel will find similar kind of vibes to different insights and thought experiments in this one too. I’ve been working really hard on this new novel of mine for so long, and with the subject matter that it’s dealing with, I feel that it is important to release it this year of all years, especially in regards to all the issues and events that we’ve been through and are still going through.

So without further ado, I want to go ahead and finally announce the title and release date for it. The second novel is called… Continue reading “Special Tuesday Post: Second Novel Title and Release Date REVEAL”

Life with the Stories from “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away”: About “Star Wars”

Over the course of the past year, I’ve made the effort to expand my dialogue about storytelling by going beyond the boundaries of books and out into the mediums of TV and movies. I do so by devoting a least one post every other month to an overview of a TV show or movie that’s reached a significant time in its history (i.e. series premiere, series finale, film release, anniversary of a release/premiere, etc.). Previously, I discussed my thoughts about the latest Pixar film, “The Good Dinosaur.” Today, in light of the release of the newest film of the saga, I discuss my love for the much hailed (and dissed) space opera, “Star Wars.”

Fresh Eyes, Cover Designs, Continual Inspiration, and Thinking Ahead (Second Novel Status Report #3)

Another four months has passed since I last gave a full-on update about the making of my second novel. Therefore, I believe that’s just enough time for me to write up a new one. As I look back on the progress on the novel between the previous update and now, I realize now that a lot has happened, and as you can imagine, I really like that.
