As quick as it began, we are now nearing the endgame. As of this writing, we have just about a day and a half remaining of the Kickstarter campaign for Dasig; a Filipino martial arts graphic novel I am writing about a young warrior-in-training who’s struggling to focus on her pursuits when invaders from an unknown land threaten to take over. Kickstarters, Anniversaries, and Reels (Oh My!)
At a glance, it’s been a minute since I’ve made several announcements at once – since the early days of the pandemic, to be precise. There’s a lot that’s going on and a lot to go over, and I’m just going to go right ahead and dive into it: Continue reading “Kickstarters, Anniversaries, and Reels (Oh My!)”
The Act of Screenwriting Exercises
This is another one of those things where you will already know if you follow me on social media. However, in case you don’t, let me just say that I really enjoyed the “Obi-Wan Kenobi” limited series this past month. I loved the journey that this beloved character went through, and despite the hiccups along the way, it didn’t deter my otherwise full blown enjoyment for it. In terms of adding to long-existing story, it was inspiring to me as a writer — so much to where during the show’s run, I started adding to the story myself. Currently In-Progress: “Dasig”
I’ve been mentioning for a while now that there’s a writing project that’s been taking up quite a bit of time as of late, and if you follow me on social media, then you know that I finally revealed just what that is within the last week. However, for those who don’t, here’s what’s up:
I’m writing a graphic novel! Continue reading “Currently In-Progress: “Dasig””
Hype Up for AAPINH Heritage Month
Not going to lie, this Asian American, Pacific Islander, and Native Hawaiian Heritage Month has been off to a really rough start. From our faith in humanity continuously being shattered by people who want to take some of our rights away, to some sad news happening in my personal life, it’s harder than usual for me to multi-task as of late. Continue reading “Hype Up for AAPINH Heritage Month”
In Collaboration with This Asian American Life: The Making of “My Journey with Journals”
So as I had mentioned last week, I have never written a comic book or a graphic novel before… but as of this week, I can say that I have written a web comic. I teased this project back in February, but for those who missed it, on Thursday, my collaboration with This Asian American Life (TAAL) was released, in the form of a comic commemorating 20 years of journaling called “My Journey with Journals.” Continue reading “In Collaboration with This Asian American Life: The Making of “My Journey with Journals””
The Coming and Consulting of “Jemini” – A “Lumpia with a Vengeance” Spin-Off Comic
Okay, so here’s something a little different, but also pretty fun, and the best part is that this marks a first for me. So check this out: Continue reading “The Coming and Consulting of “Jemini” – A “Lumpia with a Vengeance” Spin-Off Comic”
Playwright’s Commentary: “Not in Kansas”
I’m thrilled to take part in my third production with Rainy Day Artistic Collective with my new one-act play, “Not in Kansas.” Based on real life experiences of my great aunt, Justita, the story follows two PhD students from the Philippines who’re studying in the United States in the early 1950’s. While on a trip to New Orleans, the two experience the opposite of Southern hospitality at a rest stop in Mississippi. Continue reading “Playwright’s Commentary: “Not in Kansas””
Coming Next Week: Halfway Historical Festival feat. “Not in Kansas”
I’m excited to reveal that after the past few months of working on this, we are now one week away from my third production with Rainy Day Artistic Collective. This time, I’ve written one of ten plays that will be featured in their Halfway Historical Festival; where all the stories revolve around real-life occurrences. Continue reading “Coming Next Week: Halfway Historical Festival feat. “Not in Kansas””
About the Journals Pt. IV: 20 Years of Journaling
Say it ain’t so, but it’s very much true. As of yesterday, I’ve been writing in journals for 20 whole years. Continue reading “About the Journals Pt. IV: 20 Years of Journaling”
